Radar's Ted Field Set to Announce the Future of The Wheel of Time TV Series

Other than that not a peep since JordanCon back in April at which we learnt the following:
Sony Pictures Television has signed a contract with executive producer Ted Field of Radar Productions (with whom Bandersnatch Group signed a contract last year) to develop a TV production of the Wheel of Time series.
And a week or so later:
We understand that Rafe and Ted are currently in discussions with a number of content distributors/networks, and that negotiations will be concluded soon. Sorry, we don't know who they are.

For those that skip over the first part there was some "new" news ;)

The Hollywood Reporter, reports that Apple and HBO are both bidding for a new SciFi show from J.J. Abrams. They are describing it as a Space Drama but the description they provide could be a Portal Fantasy.
Sources say the Abrams drama is about a family — consisting of a mother who works as a scientist, her husband and their young daughter — who all get into a terrible car crash. After the mother winds up in a coma, her daughter begins digging through her experiments in the basement and winds up being transported to another land amid a world's battle against a monstrous, oppressive force. Her father then follows her into this new world.
If Apple pick it up that will be their 7th new show and given Abram's profile that could be the big headline show for them and may make them less interested in Wheel of Time(assuming they are).

SYFY has greenlit “The Outpost,” an original fantasy series, which hopefully rules them out of the running for WoT. They have some good shows but not the budget and have always been a long shot.
“The Outpost” will star Jessica Green (“Ash vs. Evil Dead”) as Talon, the lone survivor of a race called the Blackbloods. After her village is destroyed by mercenaries, she sets out to find the killers of her family, discovering along the way that she has mysterious powers, which ultimately she must use to battle a fanatical religious dictator.
Sounds "Original"....

“The Shannara Chronicles” has been axed after two seasons(apparently the producers are looking to find it a new home). It joins Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth adaptation "Legend of the Seeker" in the failed Epic Fantasy book to TV trashcan. Both may have failed due to them not having Sean Bean appear and die in them, or it could be because they were just "loosely/roughly" based on hugely successful bestselling books.

So what can WoT learn from those two failed shows? Cast Sean Bean as Ishamael and don't let the TV writers think they can do a better job than the author! Make small modifications where needed but don't try to reinvent the wheel!

Speaking of Shannara, it was pointed out to Narg that he should include YouTube Red in the possible mix of contenders. Narg did a little bit of research and their global head of original content, Susanne Daniels was the person who brought Shannara to MTV. Based on how that turned out, Narg hopes she's not interested although Narg did find a small connection. Lauren Lefranc who was Rafe Judkins writing partner and bestie for his previous writing gigs is a showrunner for one of their new shows.

Sony may be developing another Fantasy Franchise. Someone walking past Sony's studios in Culver City took some photo's through a window that had been conveniently left wide open to the public...

The map and names are from Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy. This may mean nothing in regards to WoT(it's a big studio) or it could mean Sony have moved on - i.e a WoT deal has been done or they gave up.

General Wheel of Time News

The Wheel of Time Spoilers Podcast have done a long.... as in 2 hr long interview with Dragonmount founder Jason Denzel. Thankfully they did a breakdown so you can just skip to the bits that interest you.

The Following Tweet made Narg think about baby names and if WoT had any impact in there popularity.

Narg had a looksee and from a quick search only found two names that increased and could be realistically linked to WoT's publication. (Ignore the blue line)

Aviendha

Looks like it didn't exist pre WoT and has been on the rise since.

Perrin

Since 1990(EotW) has been on a continual rise, before that it was pretty much flat.

The Gawyn Award

Narg has found another worthy recipient on Twitter! For those who missed the first time Narg awarded it, the Gawyn Award is for people who display woeful ignorance and refuse to listen to facts that contradict their preconceived view.

Narg would have censored the name, but Narg is feeling uncharitable after Narg tried to help this human out and got this somewhat rude response....

Worthy winner no?
